This free annual conference of information sharing and skills development will begin 6 p.m. Sept. 22 and continue through 4 p.m. Sept. 23.
* OFT Executive Council: This event serves as the fall business meeting of the OFT Executive Council, so those members are expected to attend. The meeting will be held 9:30 a.m.-noon Sept. 23.
* OFT Committees: Committees will meet during this conference, so members of our various committees are expected to attend. (Please note that the Budget Committee will not meet during this conference.) The meetings will be held 8-9:30 a.m. Sept. 23.
* Trainings - Trainings will be offered about the skills and roles of Building reps, Advocacy, Treasurers, New presidents and a Leadership cohort. Locals are welcome to send members to the trainings even if those members do not plan to attend other Local Leaders Conference sessions, OFT Committee and Executive Council meetings. Trainings will be held 12:30-3:30 p.m. See descriptions of the trainings.
Join your union brothers and sisters in solidarity to hear from speakers on various topics facing members in the workplace and how to deal with them. Also relax and enjoy the comaraderie of gathering together to get to know each other better.
Both the general session and Executive Council meeting will focus on the impending threat of the Janus v. AFSCME lawsuit to dismantle the right to have a union, how to prepare for this and other attacks on public education and labor, as well as how to build up positive images of our schools and the important work we do to benefit children.
AFT's Rob Weil will participate in the Sept. 22 general session.
Locals are responsible for overnight accommodations. Local Leaders Conference attendees must make their own hotel reservations by calling 1-866-309-0989 OR 1-614-764-2200 by Sept. 1 to be eligible for the discounted rate.
